Can You Replace Your Panels?

First, you need to determine if your panels are replaceable. Usually, every garage door manufacturers will ship their full range of panel styles directly to your door. If you can get a direct replacement, you can keep your frame and motor as they are and just install the new panels. This is a surprisingly simple job.

How to Remove and Replace Panels

Removing panels is actually very simple. All you need to do is remove a few of the mounting screws on the inside of your door. Only remove and replace one panel at a time. This is a two person job. The worker on the inside of the garage can remove all of the screws with a power drill while the other wiggles and pulls the panel out of the frame. Usually, it doesn't matter if your panels get damaged as you pull them out, but you obviously want to be very careful when installing your new panels. Long aluminum or vinyl panels are flexible and could buckle if they aren't held at both ends.

Both workers will need to pop the panel into the frame. Then one person stays on the outside, holding the panel is my place, while the other goes inside and starts to secure the mounting screws. Secure the screws at the ends of the panel first before filling in the middle screws. Once one panel is complete, you can move on to the next one until your entire door is done.

As you can tell, new garage panels are easy to install and the work is not that difficult. They aren't particularly heavy, and since they can be delivered directly to your property, the project is very convenient and practical for most homeowners. However, if you feel you cannot do this on your own, contact a garage door repair company, such as Georgia Garage Doors Inc., for help in completing this project.
